2 questions.
1. those are improper cleaning scratches to the left of the face in the fields correct?
2. what is up with the blotches under the date? I cant imagine something could of happened to that area only post mint, I looked through vamworld and didn't see anything. I also didn't check everyone.

The blotches under the date are die chips indicating Obverse III2 8 as shown in the link below, which initially appears to reduce your Morgan to three possible VAM varieties:

I would agree that the mostly-parallel scratches on the obverse indicate improper cleaning, although I don't know if they are bad enough to get that designation from a TPG. All it takes to make those scratches on a proof-like silver coin are a few quick wipes with a cloth.

All it takes to scratch a coin with surfaces like this is one swipe across a new tablecloth. I wouldn't be worried about the authenticity of the surfaces.
Rest in Peace

It looks like a lightly circulated coin so the surfaces may be considered normal for the grade by the grading companies.

I agree with Classic Coins on the attribution. (leaning towards VAM20 based on the mint mark)

the reason I asked about the scratches is this looks like a fairly high grade. maybe 65, lines in the talons tell me it was a full strike, there a slight scuff on the eagles head but other than that the reverse look strong and clean. the obverse other than the field scratches looks pretty strong as well, also the cameo that's coming off I guess you would call it, makes it look worse than it is. its hard to tell if the surfaces are DMPL but from my short experience this is def. a PL example with the cameo and super rich fields on both sides. price is 131. wondering if its worth it. I'm really concerned with the scratches on the obverse though.maybe I should ask seller for another photo of obverse

Your finger in the obverse image provides a pretty clear picture of that surface's reflectivity, and from the image I see no reason not to believe the entire field is that nice. The reverse image doesn't present the same hints, but a dirty little secret about shooting Morgans is that the faces require different technique to bring out their strenghts. So I'm prepared to believe the reverse offers the same reflectivity.

It will need to. Let's don't take my opinion for Gospel, but I feel the typical Morgan obverse attraction for marks makes the ceiling for it MS64, and it's 63 at first glance to me. The strike is typically excellent, as I expect from early San Francisco worm. However, this one is available in ludicrous PL/DMPL grades, one of the more common Morgans with reflective surfaces. You could likely find one in 68PL or 67DMPL if you were willing to write a big-enough check.

So, to me, this one has to make 63PL to justify the price, and even that's forward-looking after factoring the cost of slabbing.

I didn't take the photos, its on ebay. I see your point, for 130 it would have to be 66ms,65PL,and 64DMPL for make it worth paying that much. I just don't see that happening.

By the same token, if I could get this for $80 I'd shove you out of the way to put my money down.
