I was walking by a river and found a coin. I was wondering if someone could help me out. I've searched everywhere and can't find anything like it anywhere! One side of the coin has a circle with F on top and M on the bottom. With 10 dots around it. On the back there's a 10 with 8 stars around it. Thanks! *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***Edited by Ahoyrach 08/06/2015 10:39 pm

I moved this to the identification section, and removed the other threads about this coin. In the future, please make one thread in the correct section.

So far not US? I can't find anything on it so that would make sense.

It isn't a coin, but a "generic" token of some kind, or perhaps a piece of play money. We've seen similar items posted on the forum before - Here's one posted in 2013 - but never been given a definitive answer on exactly what they are, or where they were from, except that they do seem to appear in Europe as often if not more often than in America.

Any idea what it's made out of? It looks like it could be silver, but could also be nickel or aluminum. If it's silver, it is likely some sort of trade token. If it's aluminum or nickel, it is probably either play money or some other type of token.

There are a few ways you can test your coin to see if it's silver: 1. Ring test: Give the coin a heads or tails flip alongside a silver US dime, if you have one. Listen and see if the ringing sound they make is a pretty close match--silver will vibrate at a slower frequency, creating a deep, "rich" sound. 2. tissue test -- should be a hyperlink with a detailed explanation. 3. Conductivity-- put the token in the freezer for a minute. Silver conducts heat very quickly... if it is silver, it will become cold almost instantly and will feel extra cold in your hand. Aluminum has a very low specific heat and will barely feel cold at all.

Were you ever able to find any information on the coin/token? I ask only because I have one very similar. Well, the only difference in fact is, mine has 7 stars you see. The other coin was found with it and only shown for possible relevance.
