This is strange. Coin appears to me to be an obvious forgery, and is admittedly to be shipped from China.

See: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Peru-Spanis...ht_500wt_916

But looking at the ostensibly Dutch seller's inventory, some are from China and others are supposedly coming from the Netherlands.

See: http://www.ebay.com/sch/nlmunten/m....047675.l2562

This reference may be a bit obscure for you younger folks, but what's real and what's Memorex here? It's almost like the account has been "piggybacked" rather than hijacked.

Your thoughts?

It certainly seems odd and there also appear to be well known forgeries mixed with coins I have not seen as numismatic forgeries before. Not all the forgeries come from China. I have no idea at this point what is happening here.

It sounds like consignment shipping. That is when you take orders for goods that you don't physically have and the manufacturer/wholesaler ships on your behalf and under your name.
I'm willing to bett hat most of his stock has the same origin.
Look at the images of his other coins. All have the same black background which can be seen on some pictures to have been "shopped" in.

This is what you call a proxy seller. Who knows, you might have a student from China that moved to Netherlands for studies and sells counterfeits on the side.

You cannot just base on location to judge numismatics.

Some high quality counterfeits are coming from Belarus and Poland. In fact, there is a website that boasts selling replicas and supposedly even pays taxes to the government!

gxseries I agree that eastern Europe has several centers of forgery - it is not the Chinese alone that are making the fakes flooding ebay. However, for sheer numbers involved, the coins made in China seem to have reached several levels into the numismatic community and have become rather pervasive.

Addresses used on ebay are notoriously inaccurate. When I worked for ebay one scam was uncovered where a group (they were Chinese) that got hold of bank account numbers names and addresses. They used this data to set up fake ebay and PayPal accounts. The people targeted were often elderly and since no money was visible on their bank statements - they had no idea that their identities were being used. We went as far as to have the RCMP investigate a location that was funneling money to China and the address turned out to be an elderly couple that did not even have a computer.
