They're not taking over. Far from it, guaranty 98% of listings are fine. You just spend all your spare time looking for them.

These are US coins, why doesn't the government step in and do something? Seems they are afraid of China.

That is why I always check WHO is selling the coin and where they are from. Doesn't make it 100% legit but it definitely helps.

What really bothers me is how good they've gotten at distressing them. I don't collect many high grade examples, so I thought I was always safe from counterfeits. Distressing used to be poorly done and quite obvious. Apparently not any more. A few of those would have fooled me. Oh, who are we kidding, nearly all would have fooled me.

The government can most certainly stop importation, selling of counterfeit US money. Plus there are international world agreements on such things.

Quote: The government can most certainly stop importation, selling of counterfeit US money. How? Open every package from China? Tell me exactly how to stop it. Quote: Plus there are international world agreements on such things. China couldn't care less and will not help. There are factories over there making knockoff everything you can imagine. One of the biggest websites from China pumps thousands upon thousand upon thousands of counterfeit items into the US every day. They don't care as long as it helps their economy. They couldn't care less what it does to ours.

There are harsh federal and state laws against even the possession of counterfeit money. Easily get the records of ebay, simple. You can also issue international warrants for those in China. Even though China is supposed to cooperate in such things. Everyone ordering from ebay would have to turn over the coins to the government and would be charged if anyone sold such a coin. Easy. I'm an attorney.

Chinese fakes are going to be the ruination of the coin collecting hobby. My father and I keep talking about selling our rare/key coins now, before the fakes/counterfeits completely destroy the hobby. How may unknowing collectors have their collections peppered with fakes/counterfeits, bought off ebay?

No one is going to jail for possessing a few China fake Morgan dollars they bought off ebay. Trust me, don't care how good a lawyer you are. We've got repeat offender armed robbers getting out in a year and killing cops here.
