I found this recently, and I can't believe it's real. Must be shaved to look more like a 3, right? Sorry for the unclear photo. Please comment.

Can't see well from the pic, but probably an altered 1910.
Pretty good job!

Maybe a 1911 or 1912 nickel was used? or the "13" is altered. Honestly I don't know if it's real.

Obviously not real. A real 1913 would never have circulated that much.

Quote: Obviously not real. A real 1913 would never have circulated that much. Well, you never know. The 1913 Liberty nickel first became known to the numismatic world in 1920 and the entire lot of five coins was auctioned off in 1924. Of course, the numismatic world knew about them, but if this coin had been put into circulation accidentally, it could have gone a long time before someone in the know came across it. That said, this is an obviously altered coin and not a genuine 1913. Looks like someone gave the "0" in a 1910 a nice, deft whack with a chisel.

Or maybe it's an altered 1918?

1910. The 0 has been altered by shaving out the middle of the 0 and opening up the left side. Kinda sorta makes it look like a 3.

All 1913 Liberty nickels are fake. The (5) fake coins that were made at the mint were never monetized nor condoned by the mint. That being said, all (5) of the illegal nikels made at the mint are all accounted for.

Quote: or maybe it's an altered 1918? 1912 was the final year of the series. This coin is PMD/altered 1910.
