Royal Canadian Mint - A beautiful coin commemorating John McCrae's famous poem! Order yours today! In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below.
- In Flanders Fields, John McCrae (1872-1918) Looking at the striking red enamel poppy that has been incorporated into this coin's design, you can almost envision the power of the blazing red fields that inspired Canadian military surgeon John McCrae to write his famous poem. In Flanders Fields was the most popular poem of the First World War. It inspired an international movement to remember the fallen, and after one hundred years, the poem and the humble red flower remain central to Remembrance Day commemorations. A beautiful addition to your Canadian history collection. Order today! That is a very nice coin. I am tempted by this one. Perhaps part of what attracts me to the coin is that I have actually been to Essex farm where the poem was written.

I ordered this coin, I suspect it may sell out. Enamel dollar coins do well, traditionally and this one has a number of great features. Old effigy. Very neat - orfew to have that connection.

Quote: I ordered this coin, I suspect it may sell out. Enamel dollar coins do well, traditionally and this one has a number of great features. Old effigy. The do well...but there is no hype for this coin. Looks like the "correct" people do not create the shortage in supply for it. Another thing - imo, the theme is sub-branch of the big WWI theme. In order to reach bigger customer circle, it has to be more general, like "the Veterans", "World War", "the Victory" etc. This coin specifically commemorates the poem. For SD collectors - this is great item, for the people who even do not know which countries participated in WWI - pass. P.S. Well, of cause people aware / guess, that USA won in the WWI / WWII.

Thanks for sharing the image shopaholic.
From your image, it definitely looks like the coin is engraved under the enamel to show the details of the flower petals. True?
Hopefully my coin will be arriving soon!

Quote: any chance you could post a picture of the obverse? @SilverDon: Sure, there is the obverse. Quote: it definitely looks like the coin is engraved under the enamel to show the details of the flower petals. True? @commems: Yes, there is engraving under both the red and black enamel so the petals have some subtle details.

Great looking coin for sure. Mint should have made it a one ounce coin.
