Hi Jason,
Your quarter appears to have been circulated to the point that it has many tiny ticks and abrasions. Luster seems pretty subdued and there are definite signs of wear. I would grade it no better than AU-50 based on these photos.

The 1976-S quarters were issued in both copper-nickel clad and silver-clad versions. The copper-nickel coins were all proof strikes while both proof and mint-state silver-clads were produced. The mint-state coins went into 3-coin Bicentennial mint sets along with Kennedy half dollars and Ike dollars.

Your coin looks like a mint-set (non-proof) coin that went into circulation. Is it a silver-clad? You should be able to tell by looking at the edge. A copper-nickel clad coin should have an obvious reddish-orange layer of copper visible all around the edge.

From the quality of your images, I am assuming that they are scans correct? Scans do not show luster so they are not always the best for grading and they can sometimes have "noise" as evidenced by all the white specks. Some of them are probably marks and such, but I bet most of it is digital noise. Since it is a 1976-S and it appears to be a mint set strike, it should be 40% silver clad as no non-proof non-silver S minted coins were struck.

I am fairly certain this is an MS coin as I cannot make out any rub along the jaw, cheek, and hairline but it does appear to have a bit of a weak strike. It is difficult to determine an accurate grade with the picture quality but I would say it is a mid MS grade 64/65.

I removed the other topic of the same coin .

I agree that the coin is unc,, but the scan quality is not clear enough to give a numerical grade .

Thank you everyone for thew advice and help, it is greatly appreciated. The quarter is from the special 3 piece silver mint set. I open the set becuase I am going to get the three coins slabbed and graded. The value of the coins doesn't really matter to me I just want to collect high grade coins. I love this three coin set thats the reason for wondering grades. Again thank you very much for the help from everyone.

Yea, a scanner won't cut it for an MS grade silver coin. There's just too many subtle things you have to look for....Metalman is the master of that!
