Picked up this Morgan today, I think the reason I put it in the buy pile is the price on the 2X2. I wonder how long it has been in this holder. I want to take it out, give it a acetone bath, but it does have a sort of cool factor as is.

Sorry all .. was not paying attention and post this thread in the wrong section ... Maybe one of the nice Mods can move it to classics.

You really bought it for 3.25?

Definite cool factor. Maybe carefully pry the staples out and bathe it, rinse repeat, and replace it.

I would leave it alone GR. The rusty staples are like a sealed slab as an indicator of age. Remove the staples and you might as well throw away the 2x2

It was priced in 1960? Love the rusted staples. Probably should leave as is.

This thing is growing on me. It's my century birth year morgan and it's kinda cool to know it's been in that 2x2 since before I was born. Ya, my vote is definitely to leave as is

Finally - a holder worth more than the coin!

Thanks for the move Jbuck -------------------------- I really have to say, this coins looks so much better in hand. The new 100mm lens really picks up details ...different than my eye picks up. I really like the holder ... But this Morgan is better grade than the one I have in my Morgan Dansco.

A really cool piece, GR58. Please don't open it. Pretty please?

I'd vote for preservation as is. Neat factor would be lost. Now we have to charge our advice to buy the coin and not the holder.

Will those prices ever come again? If you were a new collector it would be great. If you had paid 20 times that much for the coin you would be crying. I wonder what silver prices were when that coin cost $3.25? Is the low cost of the Morgan as written due to something about Morgans at the time or silver prices at the time. It is said that Morgans hold their value. Maybe they do and maybe they don't.
