1872 IHC Weak Date

Trying to do some research on this 1872 IHC, but I don't have any of Rick's literature :(

I like the weakness of the strike from the date all up through UNITED.

What I don't get is the extremely localized weakness on stateS.

Wouldn't the E be affected, or the front feather?
And wouldn't the obverse show a strong strike 180 degrees from the weak strike on the same side of the coin? If you know what I mean?

since I don't have a Snow reference, I don't know if this would count as an S variety...

looking forward to hear from the experts on what you think, since I'm not a huge IHC collector.

The weakness in the S is probably just a strike-through. Most of the l872 Bold N varities concern the date itself - a nice sharp close-up pic would help determine if you have one.
