This 1826 is well pedigreed through NGC and attributed as a Newcomb N-5. How would you grade her, and why? (Green Jellybean CAC) Any additional information anyone would like to volunteer? Wow, what a coin! The details are sharp, and the surfaces are immaculate and free of corrosion, unlike many early large cents. It doesn't get much better than this! As for the grade, I'd call it VF-35 BN.

Beautiful strike. I'll go along with VF35. Would not surprise me in a 40 holder.

I'm going with XF40 Nice strike as most of these have but most 1826's have exceptional strikes.

EF 40 is my grade as well, may one or two points higher. Choice colour and surfaces. A beautiful Coronet Cent!

It's a top end EF 45, I'd say, with superb surfaces. I wouldn't be surprised if NGC gave it a 50.

Boy, tough call. I guess I'll go with 40, but tempted to go higher. What a beautiful coin!

I want to take you... higher! NGC and CAC agree that this 1826 (ex Rasmussen) is...AU58BN. My initial evaluation was of an AU53 nature with a bit of original luster around the portrait and devices. I think NGC may have "pedigree bumped" the coin slightly. Regardless of the technical grade, it's got absolutely stunning eye appeal and a worthy example of a Newcomb 5. Seller took a $200 loss, assuming they're the same ones who bought it when it was last on the market. I bid the coin at AU53.

I missed this one by one grade. I had it at AU55. Red is peeking through all over the obverse and reverse. Too much detail for XF. But I didn't think it was strong enough for 58. Nice one
