I found a old 50 dollars bill in my garage underneath my broken lawnmower. It has no notable damage except one of the serial numbers is completely gone. Can I still spend it?

If you can post a photo of it, we'll let you know if the bill has any premium value over $50.

It probably doesn't but you never know....

Yes. If I recall the law correctly, you can redeem a bill if you have "more than half" (read: probably 2/3) of the bill, or if you have all four corners, or at least two corners and the entire portrait.

Does that mean the bill is torn and missing a big enough part that one SN is gone? That's kind of notable... I think you can take it the bank and they'll swap it out for you as long as enough of it is in tact.

Pics, please.

I believe if you have at least 50 percent of the note remaining you can redeem it at your local bank for a crisp, brand-new Ulysses.

I believe you need two complete serial numbers and the bank will give you a modern issue. No piece of US Currency produced by the BEP has ever been demonetized i.e. you may bring an Educational $1 to the bank for a modern US $1 that can easily be spent at your favorite retailer.
