Even though I don;t want to use dollar coins, Ronald Reagan certainly - in true history of the US - not modern media stype - deserves this. I'd sign the petition also.
He deserves this honor and is largely cursed by misinformed people who owe him for freedoms we now enjoy. He also endured the lashing of the media in his day and was able to use his wit to make the accusers look like fools when they tried to make him look stupid.
If and when true history ever becomes dominant again the truth that his policies and understanding American Yankee Inginuity and Capitalism would, and did plow under the Soviet Union and communism. People alive during the pre-Reagan era remember there was always a scare the USSR would send their missles at us. Reagan knew (as one of his favorite sayings goes) that socialism has, and always will collapse on itself because you run out of other peoples' money to spend.
Does the man who caused the fall of the Berlin Wall deserve being honored on a dollar? I remember where I was the morning the news of the Berlin wall falling was broadcast. To me, and many others in the world, it was a miracle. I had friends whose parents had escaped the USSR communist regime and know the true horrors - despite modern media trends - of what communism is and does. Ronald Reagan dollars would be at the top of the list of my collecting.

The way things are going you'd be more likely to see Whoopie Goldberg than Reagan. There is the spark of hope that reason will win out over political correctness however, as Women on Twenties did not succeed in re-writing history and removing Jackson from the $20. This nation owes a great debt to Ronald Reagan. How about a coin with both Reagan and John Wayne? I guess that sounds more like a fantasy Commem. Jack

To me it's a political question about putting Reagan on a regular business strike coin. One thing I liked about coin collecting, is I don't have to argue politics. I think it'd be a pretty controversial choice.

Unfortunate but true. George Orwell came pretty close with his 1984 - but mostly the "rewriting of history" has been done for younger generations who were not there and have no remembrance of the times as they were.

We need all of the politicians off the coins. They all provoke the kind of arguments seen here.

I didn't notice ANY argument. However, if we remove all politicians from our coins & currency what would take their place? You don't think Washington or Lincoln should be on our coinage? Removal of likenesses of politicians won't eliminate any differences of opinion. Nor would it be an improvement in human relations. Besides, if we don't have politicians to moan and groan about, what will we talk about? Jack

No more politicians on US coins! Regardless of your thoughts on Reagen, Kennedy, Ike etc. they should not be depicted on US coins. Perhaps a statute prohibiting real persons depicted on coins and currency until they have been dead 150 years or more would work.

Politics and the direction the country is heading aside they have already "forced" the change of the $10 bill upon the public. Nothing against any woman or what they (or any other group) have gone through but "if it ain't broke don't mess with it". If the system is broken then you need an across the board reform not a 5% appeasement token / trinket / settle out of court agreement. The forum has members on both sides of many issues like drop the cent, drop the nickel, get rid of the dollar bill, issue $2 and $5 coins, and many more issues. If the Presidential dollar coin was already ready to expire in 2016 why didn't the gubment in order to not ruffle the feathers of the masses and keep the $10 bill the same and put a female on the new $1 coin 2016 is the 100th anniversary of the start of the last "real" designs in coinage and should have been an opportunity to reintroduce them and educate the lamestream public on some history if they could put down their phones and put away their credit cards long enough to pay attention.

Because a little girl wrote a letter to Obama asking why there were no women on any bill. True story. This is how our current administration makes policy changes

Presidents who were within the political life time of a lot of the population shouldn't be getting on coins.
Kennedy is still too young to have been put on a coin, Reagan too.

Quote:So the Presidential dollar end next year (2016) with just 2 coins. Uh, three coins. Nixon, Ford, and Reagan Quote: You don't think Washington or Lincoln should be on our coinage? Neither wanted to be on our coins. Reagan would not want it, either. Nancy made that clear when a group lobbied to put him on the dime.
