...Highlights magazine back in the 70s

I remember those. Looked forward to getting them each month. Also Cricket and Games (maybe early 80s).

I think back on the COINAge article a bit and while I agree with the basic sentiment that one could go broke trying to build an annual set of the US Mint's offerings, it would take a very specific collector to want to do that (or to be ABLE to do that). Most of the expense comes from the gold products, which very few people can afford.

Gold excluded, even just the annual sets, silver commemoratives, and other silver products require at least a thousand dollar commitment a year. That's a substantial investment for most folks, and probably a light estimate.

Coin News magazine (which has apparently won numismatic publication of the year for two years running)

and the Celator which unfortunately ceased in 2012.

I subscribe to a free weekly email blog from the Numismatic Bibliomania Society called the "E-Sylum." But the blog isn't just about numismatic literature, it's chock full of coin trivia and other tidbits of information that is of interest to just about every coin collector. There are currently almost 1900 subscribers to the E-Sylum, which is edited by numismatist extraordinaire Wayne Homren.

NBS describes its missive as "The E-Sylum is a weekly electronic newsletter published by the Numismatic Bibliomania Society for numismatic bibliophiles, researchers, and just plain numismatists around the world."

I used to subscribe but often I found much of the magazines to be mostly advertisements.

Yeah, it seems like they have become sales catalogs with some articles.

Captainrich - thanks for the reference. I had not heard about this newsletter. It looks pretty cool to me. But then, I also find interest in numismatic advertisements. They keep me up on new ideas and a broad spectrum of prices for various things. Thanks for sharing. Jack

I'm more of a club journal guy instead of magazines anymore, Asylum, E-Sylum, Gobrecht Journal, John Reich Journal, Numismatist, Fly-In, C4, Pennywise, Errorscope, auction catalogs and older out of print journals that I collect, such as; Out on a Limb, by the Money Tree, and Bowers Rare Coin Reviews, all top my lists of things I read each month, as I can.

I subscribe to COINage magazine, even though I don't collect American coins and don't really have any. I just enjoy reading it and looking at the ads.
