I'm thinking about getting a Littleton 19th century type set album. I understand it has 57 slots. I'm just wondering, from anyone who has this album---what are going to be the really tough slots to fill?

I will be less enthusiastic about the album if several of the 57 coints are going to be really pricey...

Obviously the main factor for price will be grade.
But I can't find a listing of the coins required to fill it so I can't really say any more.

I'm not sure what coins are in the album, but if it's close to the dansco 7070 there could be a couple of pricey coins. I think of my 7070 as a challenge and know it could take years to complete. That's the fun part for me at least. I personally don't want an album that I could fill in a short time with no real challenge involved.

I have not really looked at the album your posting about, but
Have read the description.

The hard coins would be

Draped bust large cent
Classic head large cent
Twenty Cent
Seated dollar no motto
Seated dollar motto

And ...as stated ... A lot depends on the grades you plan on
filling it with. And depending on your budget, others coins can
cost a good amount.

There are many levels of collectors, some feel $100 is a lot to
spend .... Others might think $500 is no problem.

As usual most forget to welcome new members.
As to your question. One more thing is availability. By that I mean do you have coin stores in your area? Do you have any coin shows in your area? Coin Clubs? Your sources of coins could well be good or really bad in attempts to fill any Album. If you stick to just low grades, even then some become difficult if no place to find them. And if your not an ebay person, or not an on line dealer person, then access to any coins becomes even more difficult.
Usually if there are any fairly large coin shows in your area, you should be able to fill that Album fast. But that too depends on how much money your willing to invest.
And don't forget, many other organizations make Albums. Whitman, Dansco, etc.

This is a great album to piece together regardless of which manufacturer of album you go with. I would say you won't break the bank with the majority of the coins if you stay in a VF range. Some will cost you dearly regardless but that's a good mid-level grade range.

I highly advise against any online purchases of raw coins without truly knowing what you're doing and posting questions here for the CCF to opine on. You are more than safe to buy slabbed (third party graded) coins and just free them from their tombs and plop them in your album.

Share pics along the journey.

I will say that I, personally, don't care for the two-post (Dansco-style) albums. If you ever have to remove a page, lining up the posts to put them back together can be a traumatic experience. The 3-ring binder format of the Littleton albums is much easier to work with, and the pages lay flat (personal preference). Another factor is that Littleton lists mintage numbers underneath each port, whereas with the Dansco albums its written on the inside covers. Finally, depending on your color preference, the Littleton albums are an attractive green (like currency) with gold titles vs. the brown of the Dansco products (like...eh..uh..you know, brown stuff ). I have both kinds. The Dansco albums I have were given to me with coin purchases, I bought the Littleton albums I own. Dansco has several album titles that Littleton does not (ie. World Crown Collection). Jack

For what it is worth, I have never had a problem moving/adding/changing pages around the Dansco albums.

I'm a littelton album lover over dansco as well. I do like the look better and how easy it is to remove the pages but my main reason is because of the wild toning and colors they can produce on ms coins after 10yrs
Only drawback to me vs dansco is the larger girth due to the rings

Littleton coin holes are much better sized than Danscos, that's for sure.
