I'll tell you why...
1. You could find a coin on the ground worth a lot of money, but if you find a baseball card, or a comic book on the ground, it's more than likely damaged and worthless. 2. You can buy a roll of any type of coins, and if you don't like what you get, you can always trade them in for new ones. When's the last time you bought a pack of baseball cards, opened it, didn't like what you saw and returned it for new ones? You could recycle .50 (penny roll) over and over again. 3. Coins are EVERYWHERE! All over the house, in every store, banks, even outside on the ground. It's always available somewhere. It doesn't have to have it's own shop. 4. Baseball cards and comic books only keep their value as long as the player or character is popular. Dead presidents will always be popular. 5. Fellow collectors are 2nd to none when it comes to helping you out with questions and stuff like that.
That's really all I can think of. Do you know any more? Edited by brefos77 01/11/2008 10:44 pm

I have like 3 large plastic totes in storage filled with all sorts of sports cards. That was my hobby in my teens etc. They ruined sports cards by making sooo many different kinds, sets and what not. Used to be like 4-5 top companies to buy from, and you could actually build a set. Now its just filled up with crap, and I cant even believe kids would enjoy them anymore.
I keep telling myself to sort through them, organize them, but there is like 20,000 or more cards!
I agree with all your points why coins are better then cards. Love everything about coins so far :)

Let's not forget that the history of coins is quite long as it's a form of cash - it's just universal worldwide.

I'd be more then happy to take those cards off your hands. seriously...think about how many boxes of coins you could have if those 3 totes weren't there.

I've got a load of comics and sports cards that will probably never again be worth anything, that's why I kept comparing them to coins. Creaton, you hit the nail right on the head. There are WAAAY too many card companies, and each one has about 17 different series for each year. Beckett magazine has about 5 pages that covers years 19 fifty something to 19 ninety something (40+ years), then about 50 pages for about 10 years of cards from 199?-present..Coins rule!

Most all my cards come from the years 1987-1993, so they are not all that great. I have some that are worth a few bucks, upwards to 20 but nothing great. I have more in quantity, then quality :)
Grace, I always told myself i'd never sell these. My son, whenever I have one, would kill me I'm sure :)

collecting things with intrinsic value such as coins and stamps is a sound investment as well as lots of fun!

I like the hunt. Filling holes in albums (especially the 7070) is enjoyable and reading about the coin and history in the era of a specific coin adds to the hobby.

This thread inspired me to blow off the dust of the totes I have full of sports cards. Wow, do I have some organizing to do, I should have never started. I'll let you know if I find anything worth a ton, doubt it tho :)
