My 8 y/o son saw my collection and has gotten interested in coins so yesterday I took him down to his first coin show in Gettysburg. Bought himself a proof set and several of the dealers gave him some foreign coins. not a killing by any stretch but it is nice to see him interested in something other than video games so I think we are off to a good start. He seems to like indians, buffalos and SLQs more than anything, he is a chip off the 'ol block!

Be careful, coins can be pricier gifts than a video game (lol). I kid, that's fantastic! Hopefully my hobbie rubs off on my kids so they'll cherish my collection when I'm gone instead of just hawking it.

That's great that your son appears to be interested. A little nurturing could go a long way.

My 13 year old got interested in coins a few years ago but it only lasted about 6 months.

I don't pressure him to get back into it but kids are kids and their attention span is low. Let him collect at his own pace and enjoy the company

I always love seeing the young ones getting into the hobby. Was at a coins show in Illinois over the weekend where kids were given a list of dealers. They go to the dealers and the dealer asks them a question. If they get the answer right the dealer signs their card. Get all the dealers signatures and they got a coin related prize. All the questions were numismatic related. It was awesome seeing the youngsters answering the questions.

Glad you're keeping the tradition alive with your son!

It is nice when others in your family are interested
in this crazy hobby.

I have my youngest daughter. She is 30 years old now,
but I started taking her to coin shops when she was
very young.

Now she likes Morgans, silver dimes and commemorative
dollars. She travels for her work, sometimes she stops
at coins shops and will call me asking if coins she
is looking at are a good deal.

My father is also interested in coins, but more for
the silver and gold value.

That is awesome!

My 13 Y/O has a modest interest in coin collecting. Her favorites are the square "samurai" coins, and many of the french designs.

Excellent! I hope he gets the bug and ends up appreciating the hobby as much as you!
Rest in Peace
