Hey! Today I received my very first order from Provident Metals. Because it was my first transaction with Provident, I decided to play it VERY SAFE, and ordered only copper rounds. I bought 3 each of the Standing Liberty quarter design, the Morgan dollar design, the Peace dollar design, and, finally, 3 of the incused Indian Quarter Eagle. These are EXQUISITE designs! My next order to PM, will certainly be for Silver bullion (albeit not quite so many). I really just wanted to be able to inspect some of the classic coinage designs up close and personal. The chance of me ever seeing a Standing Liberty quarter, for instance, in proof condition is pretty much zero. This is amazing amount of art, to add to my collection, for under $20! Question: Provident shipped these copper rounds in soft, pliable flips. That sounds to me like PVC. Does anyone know for sure? Also, because copper is so terribly reactive to environmental contaminants, would you think it better to store them in Safeflip 2 X 2, self-seal, card stock holders, or in Safelip clear, two-pocket Mylar holders? They will ultimately be stored in BCW heavy, cardstock (12 to a page) binder pages. The twelve rounds I bought should make one beautiful page of bullion. Thanks for any suggestions. Jack PS - I don't know how to share pictures yet, but you can see the designs on PMs website.

Sorry I cannot help with the idea of PVC though.

I don't think so on the flips. I've only ordered silver bullion, but they've come in more rigid plastic flips. They do not smell like shower curtains.

Still, copper will react with the air

Provident has such a great variety of product. I'm closed to finished with the Zombucks series, I've put together five sets of the copper and silvers, in their cool display cases.
Nothing but positive results from Provident Metals.

Fist - tell me about the "cool little display cases", please.
Also, I think the flips they arrived in passed the "Shower Curtain Smell Test", but I'm not positive. I could be "Smell Blind." I think, unless someone advises against it, at least for now, I'm going to place each one in a Clear, Mylar, Two-Pocket, 2 X 2, flip. Those can actually be heat-seal closed (though I've never tried it). Now that I think about it, I'm not exactly sure how you'd go about heat sealing them. Maybe someone else can offer their wisdom. Thanks, Jack
PS - If you haven't checked out the Provident Metals website, it's worth the effort. Beautiful, beautiful bullion!

Did you mail payment for the lower price or just pay more electronically? I ask because I'm wondering how long the processing was on the cheaper route.

I went ahead and used my credit card. The value of the shipment, at full price (12 copper rounds), was less than $20. So, I was more motivated by impatience, than saving a few cents. From the day of my order, to the time in my hand, was a total of 9 days (CA). Jack

I have ordered many different types of things from Provident and never been disappointed with anything. They are a great company to deal with.

I'll have to try it one of these days. I like the look of their prospector rounds quite a bit.

If a small chunk of the flips plastic floats in water without any air bubble or surface tension supporting it, it can not be PVC.
If it sinks and you want to investigate further, then test if it stinks.
You will need to light the plastic on fire (safety, toxins, ventilation, yada yada). It will smell like hydrochloric acid, not that you should be trying to take a whiff off of it. The plastic will also burn / char and will not have molten drips coming off of it. You may even see a green tint to the flame if you look close enough.
That is the simplest way I know to be sure on PVC beyond the shower curtain smell test.

Fist - That case is SO COOL! What a great way to store that series. I'd like to see some PICS - (says the guy who doesn't know how to do pics - LOL) Is that the only case PM offers (for the Zombucks)? Talk about a great conversation piece!! Also, I'd like to hear the story about your 1758 Reales find. Who has that kind of luck? I have convinced myself that the flips that arrived with my order are Mylar, and suitable for long-term storage' Thanks for the help Buckeye. Jack

Not sure about those coin flips Jack, but I do know that some of my Zombucks walkers have developed milk spots. They are stored in coin safe tubes since purchase.
The Zombucks display case from Provident is the only one I know of, aside from the individual cases that you can buy with their proof coins.
The 1758 reale I dug in a farmyard in Michigan. It was well worn, but the date is there, and more. I almost tossed it, at first thinking it was an electical box knock-out slug.

Fist - I think I'm gonna be OK with the PM provided flips. As a matter of fact, they apparently maintain/market their own brand of "non-plasticized coin flips." They're kind of pricey also. You can read about them here: http://www.providentmetals.com/prov...10-pack.htmlAbout the milk spots, that's completely weird. PM is such a good company that I think I would write to them and give them a chance to explain or offer help with fixing/replacement. I know that US Proofs and BUs sometimes end up with milk spots after their rinsed. Having said that, it's odd that these appeared on your silver after a while, and while protected in storage. Grrrr! From my meager understanding, milk spots are kinda permanent, and that's not right. Jack PS - You must have picked your 1758 Reales dig spot with the help of that Minelab Explorer 2. What an amazing detector!!
