1924 Saint Gaudens Double Eagle 111735256411This seller was mentioned in the following thread on fake slabbed AGEs as having several fake/suspect coins for sale/sold. https://goccf.com/t/235239I was wondering what members thought of this 1924 Double Eagle. It looks very granular and weakly struck to me and I think there is a very high probability that it is fake and that the slab is fake as well.

There's a lot of detail missing to be an authentic MS63.

Obvious counterfeit coin and slab. The obverse doesn't even come close to replicating a genuine piece. Look at the date alone.

Thanks that was what I was thinking but just wanted to be sure before I add these images to my folder on fakes.

His gold buff looks even worse, especially when you look up the real one.

Uninformed Buyers see slabbed gold and think nothing can be wrong. They buy it, toss it in the safe and forget about it. (At least that's what the Sellers of this crap hope they do!)

How are they pulling this off? Cracking the slab, replacing the coin with a fake and re-sealing it? Or changing the label as well too?

What are the diagnostic points to look for to identify fake slabs? I am looking at the slab for this number on the NGC site and comparing to the advertised slab. I do note that the bar codes are different.
edit: a couple of the numbers look different, also.

The coin is a lot less detailed in the seller photo than in the NGC registry. obviously fake!

The date is misaligned, the NGC "1924 $20" font is wrong, and the detail is incredibly light.

Every coin this seller sold was fake. Looks like he mainly sells electronic parts, so he may not have know they were not genuine - still.....
