I have a malaligned, miscut and a low serial star dollar note (K 00123414*). I am not a collector so I know nothing about what I have. Please advise! Edited by JediAmy 10/11/2015 11:57 pm

Photos will be very helpful, but any error note that also doubles as a star note are always in demand.

Take a curling iron and carefully straighten the bill, it will look a hundred times better.

Don't, it will lose the embossing, which is really not good.
That is a very good find!

Do NOT take a curling iron to your note -- That is equivalent to polishing a coin. You need to find a plastic currency sleeve to place this note in. (Any coin shop will have these and you can buy them individually for a few cents)
Although circulated, this note is definitely a keeper and will have a premium associated with it. Look closely and you can see a very small portion of another bill is showing at the bottom left and it's also worth noting you almost have a ladder serial. A pretty neat piece, especially if you found it for face value, which I am assuming you did.

I bought a note similiar to yours (same district and series date) in California a few months ago. My note has serial number K00095520* and is uncirculated. Position letter on my mine is F5 on the front & plate F6 on the front. My back plate is 4. Our notes would be from sheets just a few numbers apart. The first inclination with my note was that it was a "faux" cutting error from a BEP issued uncut sheet. (Those "faux" (fake) cutting errors are very prevalent on ebay.) My problem is that I have not seen any 2013 $1 uncut star sheets from the Dallas district for sale on ebay or from the BEP. As far as this error goes, it really isn't "misaligned" (all the printing front and back matches up). It's a cutting error. Based on what I see now I now believe that our notes are genuine BEP cutting errors. Time will tell. As far as value goes, I paid 10$ for mine so the most I can lose is 9$. If you found yours in circulation you are way ahead of the game. Welcome to the Forum!

It appears that the Dallas district must have had a run of star notes with printing issues. Here is a previous thread on a note very similar to your note, just aligned a bit different with a slightly lower serial number. https://goccf.com/t/226942It's also worth adding that your star note error is from a run of 500,000 printed, which is quite low in terms of star note printings. You can add that on top of everything else it has going for it. http://mycurrencycollection.com/ref...star-notes/1

I got it back as change during a fall festival! I didn't notice the other bill until you mentioned it.... Neat! I plan on keeping it, but out of curiosity, is it worth anything? I am going to look at all my bills more closely now :)

Nice find! Your note is wrinkled and has been folded which will hurt the value. Do not attempt to flatten it. Collectors can feel the difference and that would furher reduce its value. westernsky paid $10 for his note -- since his is uncirculated, yours would be worth less than his.

JediAmy -- great note! Considering the nature of a star note, it's always fun to see an error star. Let us know what you end up doing with it.

Nice note! As far as value goes, I would echo that somewhere in the $5-10 range is reasonable. Unfortunately, notes don't get into the super premiums unless part of the design is cut off. Yours is SO CLOSE but technically I think this would pass BEP QC by the skin of its teeth.
Still, I have kept bills with much less of a dramatic off-center cut.

All series 2013 $1.00 Notes are printed on the new SOI press on 50 subject sheets, and unlike COPE, the serial numbers on these are printed on LEPE with skip-numbering of 100 for each note, starting at A5 & ending at J1... Each sheet will have the same last 2 digits on all 50 Notes...
I made plate position charts for Cope, LEPE serial numbers printed on 32 subject sheets from Series 2009 $1.00 Notes & series 2013 50 subject sheets...
