I know I know, such little detail not going to be easy to ID this one but collectors bring coins in our shop in Vancouver WA that have us baffled so we take photos of them and post to this forum. So far forum members are 2 for 2 in positively ID'ing coins we've posted. Let's see if we can make it 3 out of 3 with this latest post!

Tough one. Posting size and weight will help.

My guess based on the reverse is some Islamic type, heavily counterstamped (note the R and star patterns are incuse; may or may not have been part of the original design).

I'll see what others have to say.

That looks like a "Morelos" counter stamp. Look into War of independence era Mexican coins, 1810 or so.
Probably a 8 Reales Oaxaca.

I can make out an 8 and an R on the obverse, or whatever side has the counterstamp.

How about this?

P.S. Nice to find another member from Washington. I live up in the Carnation-Duvall area.
