Some Morgan's came into the LCS today. Picked up a couple because I liked the story. And one I did not have, the other will be a ok place holder. I have two GSA 1878 CC I am not going to break out of the packages and the 1878 8 tail feathers I did not have. Story to follow

Here is the story A older lady came in with her son and daughter. Her husband had past away, she wanted to sell his collection and have the son and daughter split the money. Their story goes. He was a Air Force recruiter in the 1950's and 1960's. He traveled northern Florida and southern Georgia. She said he would take his paychecks to the banks, in the small towns he traveled to, and cash them for silver dollars. The banks would do it, and ask him not to bring the coins back. In the collection there were 129 Morgan and Peace dollars. Most of them were all different dates and mint marks. A really nice 1892 CC and several others CC's. Three 1921 Peace dollars and two 1928 Peace dollars. Most were not in great shape, but he got them all for $1.00 each. I took some quick pictures with my Ipad. Not great pictures but I hope enough to get the idea. (I only picked up the two above, Might pick up some more tomorrow)

That 1878 CC you bought is interesting... VG obverse, AG reverse?

Quote: That 1878 CC you bought is interesting... VG obverse, AG reverse? Thanks ... I think so too. I know many collectors might not buy coins like these. I just really like coins with a story. When they are in low grades like these, I don't mind buying them, as long as they are cheap. Also I pretty much like all 1878 Morgan dollars.

Do you own the LCS, or you just a visitor? I sometimes visit my LCS, and any time someone is having their coins appraised, I can't help but trying to get a glimpse of what they're selling. Sometimes it's only a small Ziploc, but I've seen collections stacked up in boxes on a dolley.

Nice picks! I would have snagged those two as well. Have you VAMmed the 8tf?

Cascade I think tha 92CC is pretty nice, but a little more than I want to spend. They are going to talk to another dealer on Monday, unless they sell it this weekend. I am picking up the 91 CC ... Because it is better than the one I have. And swapped out a couple others as upgrades. There is a lot more to this collection ... Also got 27 more 40% Ike's. And some commemorative dollars. Have not went through the mint sets yet, and there is a lot more coming Next Friday.

I don't own the LCS, but work there. The family has two LCS in the area. It is fun to see all the coins that come in, and work with the people selling ... And buying coins.
Plus I get to add a lot of coins to my collection.

Nice pick ups! If I could only go back in time when you could walk into a bank and get a Morgan silver dollar for face! I can't get the flux capacitor working on my DeLorean time machine...oh well, I will just have to listen to the stories retold.

Rk55, you still can get a morgan for face at a banks. It's rare but does happen GR, that's a sweet 92 but I know what you mean. On the flip side it looks like your 40% monster is gaining ground

I would love to be able to buy such collections, but I don't own a shop. Perhaps I could advertise anyway in the local papers or on Craigslist. That collection, I would have bought outright, 100% intact, and preserved it. Those are awesome coins with a great back story. I inherited about a roll of circulated Morgans and Peace dollars from my grandparents who also saved them from circulation after he got back from the war, my grandpa owned a body shop and also made frequent trips to Reno. Mostly well worn and circulated coins, no CC's.

Cool story! Lots of CCs in that hoard. The number of these circulation driven collections has to be on the decline as the old-timers get up there in years and their heirs disburse their collections.

If I were to work at a coin store, I'd never take home a pay check.
