I saw a listing for a 1798 draped bust large cent.

Worth-The-Price?

Worth-The-Price?

As you can tell, the obverse is nice enough, but the nick on the reverse on the "n" and "e" worries me. Any help putting a reasonable price on this would be appreciated as I'm not particularly knowledgeable of how much a scratch takes away from a coin's value. The listing price is $495. Would it be a rip off?

$495 maybe for a problem free Coin. This one is a problem Coin because of the gouge and obverse pit.
$250-275 IMO

The damage is unfortunate. Would have been a stunner.

Too bad.

Is it just me, or does that nick look fresh? I hate it when peoples' carelessness damages perfectly good coins.

Looks like it was in pretty recent history. Might be the lighting too though that makes it look redder than the rest of the coin.
