It's January 2016, you're in Tampa at the 2016 FUN Convention. What would you buy if someone just handed you $2K and said buy something nice. Edited to clarify the responses Edited by 1916 D Merc 10/19/2015 6:18 pm

I would try to get as many hole fillers in the 66-68 grade range. But that's just me.

If you like Morgan DMPL, you might consider buying one of the following in MS64 DMPL: 80, 81, 82 or 84. If you find one that you like, you have had an excellent show. These dates are very difficult to find in MS64 DMPL, but they are in your price range, and you will have money left over to buy something else.

A 1797 or 1803 draped bust large cent in XF or AU condition. Assuming I have 500 left, I'd go for a 1909 S Indian Head.

I would marry two grand more to the initial money and buy a 1890CC GSA dollar. This would maybe get you an ungraded one or ms60.

It doesn't matter how much money I would have to spend. I always look for good value for money in whatever I buy.
Could be any ancient, medieval, milled or modern World coin(s), U.S. or any other country. Having a very wide vision opens the possibility to all kinds of bargains, across the whole of numismatics.
It is good to be able to consider every coin at a show, and consider the possibility of a bargain for any of them. It depends on what I am lucky enough to find.

I would buy the nicest 1946 Newfie nickle I could find, and hopefully something left over for dinner with my wife.
Or some really nice 1946 gold.

Well, let me see.... I think my first choice would be the nicest Twenty Cent Piece I could find. If that wasn't available, I would move over to a Barber half and Barber dime, or perhaps a nice flowing hair cent... These are all upgrades to my U.S. type set.
