I don't see why you wouldn't keep a Shield nickel. Yes, it ads a small amount to the coin. Not a lot though.

Nope. This coin in that condition is only worth about $10... However, I would check under a loupe for a much more rare 1883/2.

I too think it's either a planchet crack or lamination.
