I just went through some Jefferson nickels to see if I could attribute some RPMs. For a couple, I think I found them, and for others, I have nothing. I'd just like some confirmation/help from members with more experience. 1. 1948-S
your 1948 S, is questionable the 1958 D is a RPM both 1962 D show excessive die wear first 1963 D may be a RPM first 1964 D nice triple strike! second 1964 D - excessive die wear 1972 S proof, nice double or triple, may show a design change as well.
I can confirm two are rpms the #2 1958-D and #9 1972-S look good and also these two are not #5 1963-D is md, and the #7 1964-D is multiple md in one direction.
This rest are questionable.
1. 1948-S looks like it might be a RPM but the excessive die flow and wear make to hard to confirm 2. 1958-D- RPM-001 look good for a rpm 3. 1962-D ? 4. 1962-D ? 5. 1963-D MD 6. 1963-D cant make a decision either way 7. 1964-D Multiple Machine Doubling in one direction http://www.error-ref.com/multiple-m...e-direction/ 8. 1964-D- RPM-002 or RPM-004 Not seeing a rpm here 9. 1972-S (proof)- RPM-001 looks does look good for a 1972-S RPM-001
I don't see any of these as RPM. It is MD or Die Deterioration. Note the devices are reduced/flattened when viewing the overall size of the devices. The heavy die flow on the left side of the devices is coming from the building. (normally die flow runs to the closest rim) Even the 1972 proof is MD. Note how the upper look is reduced by the MD? On the 1972-S RPM-001 from CONECA, the upper loop and lower loop are thicker.
