I've wanted an example of this key date since I was a kid. I ran across this one at our Fresno coin show last weekend and liked it enough to buy. I especially liked the strongly-defined L initial and the visible 4 diamonds on the Indian's ribbon. The marks around ONE CENT on the reverse seem to be a combination of die scratches and actual hairline scratches. They are virtually invisible without magnification.

Thoughts on grade?

WOW!, I love it, we are missing this one only, great pick up Jaobler, not struck on the 'light' scratched on the reverse but, 4 diamonds showing, AU-58, expensive coin, nice..

Agree 58. Hopefully some of those gunk spots will come off.

Those lines on the reverse look like alloy streaking and run the opposite direction of the lines on the obverse as they should. Real nice coin. nlp

The dealer had this one marked as EF which seems a bit conservative (not that I'm complaining). The strike seems above average for an '09-S but there doesn't seem to be any original luster. Given the tiny reverse scratches EF might be a realistic compromise.

Thanks for the comments; I'm happy to have finally added this date to my collection.

Dealer had it marked XF?AU-55 all day and the dark spots should come off with a gentle (VERY gentile) stroke of a toothpick.
