I have this 1988 D penny. I appears that possibly a piece of copper was dropped on the D. It doesn't look smooched just like it is a drop. Also the edge below the date seems to be messed up like it started to lose some copper. And even the last 8 in 1988 seems to be a little filled. One more thing the lower left shoulder of Lincoln possibly a very tiny chunk missing. Who knows maybe that small chunk ended up in the D. As always would like your thoughts. If it is an error is there any value in this type of error?

The Rim looks to be a Die Deterioration issue . The glob by the rim looks like glue or some sort of adhesive. The Mintmark I'm not sure about because of pictures . Howerver it is not uncommen for a minmark to be filled due to a die chip which is what it might be but a closer clear picture would help.

Die Deterioration around the rim. The thing near the shoulder is a small gas bubble under the plating. looks like there is a stain around the D, and there is zinc rot all around the D. Sorry.

That is a stain around the mint mark and rim area.
