Have any of you ever tried cracking out and resubmitting a coin that got a details grade for being whizzed? The reason I ask is I just received some coins back from ngc and one of my CBHs was detailed for being "whizzed" but I see no evidences of this. I know grading as a whole is very subjective, do you think that another submission could result in a straight grade?

Have you looked at the coin with a loupe to find the hairline scratches? When I look at your coin photo, I do see some fine scratches in the field at the top of the obverse. The coin does not appear to have an original surface.

If you can not find any evidence of the coin being cleaned or whizzed, you may want to have someone who qualified to look at the coin before resubmitting.

I see strong clash but the coin does not look polished.

That's an interesting coin. Perhaps it was whizzed and then re-toned?

Whizzed carries explicit connotations of an abrasive cleaning or polish. The coin may have been cleaned but it most certainly does not appear to be whizzed, something which toning can't easily cover up at any rate.

I also see no evidence to suggest that the coin was whizzed.

I think at worst, the coin has cleaning or altered surfaces. No evidence of whizzing.

Then again, to even the most expert numismatists, heavy toning--as on your coin--can hide a lot of problems.

You didn't think the coin would grade problem free when you bought it. Doesn't look whizzed to me either, but maybe it's the lesser of two evils as compared to other options. I don't like the sound of whizzed, it's a bit harsh. Would it look better if the slab said questionable color or environmental damage? Just sayin'

Isn't whizzed and cleaned the same thing but differing degree.

i just sent a coin back in that I bought as an au details grade marked improperly cleaned, I cracked it out and resubmitted it because it still had a lot of proof like mint luster remaining on both sides and didn't look cleaned at all.I figured its worthy of a second opinion

John, whizzing is physical damage to the coin, while cleaning (such as dipping the coin) is done chemically.

Whizing involves the use of a power device, while cleaning, harsh or otherwise, generally means the application of chemicals or polishing by hand.
