Hello everyone! Well, I can't handle the insanity trying to figure out what this is any longer!
I've been searching for years now and all I've found out is that on one side is a New Zealand
Tiki and on the other side is possibly an English merchant ship? Its also slightly rounded with
no signs of being soldered or welded together. The only other thing I do know is that this was
found(not bought) by my Grandfather during WW2 in New Zealand. Well, hopefully one of you might
be able to restore a bit of my sanity! javascript:insertsmilie('')

Welcome!

When you say round, do you mean somewhat globe shaped, or convex on one side, concave on the other?

And does it stand freely on its own, or is it leaning on the ruler?

I suspect this is a paperweight.

Thank you both for hospitality! Finn it definitely isn't flat, but not quite round either
and it is indeed leaning against the ruler which made it somewhat difficult to photograph!
Not sure if I'm allowed to post an additional photo at this point? If alright, then I'll take
a pic from the side.

Well not a coin. Is it round like a bulb? Any markings like hall marks or what it's made from?

The English merchant ship is the golden hind - which was used on the UK ½d. The NZ Tiki was used on the NZ ½d - so I suspect what you have is two ½d bent and stuck together somehow. As for dates - the English design was in use 1937-1967, the NZ design 1940-1965, so it could conceivably date from the war.

It sure looks typical of "trench art" to me.
