Remember that I'm a beginner at this. BUT should I be setting aside those canadian cents that end up in the bags of coins I go thru looking for my wheaties? What canadian cent dates are keepers? And are coin shows a good place to pick up albums and coin holders or is it better to order on-line? Thanks!

What you decide to keep is up to you. I keep all of the Canadian pennies I find and I started an album for them too.
I don't know where the best deals are on coin albums but if you do order online you can save on shipping by ordering several at one time.

Depending on what albums you get, you can order direct from https://www.collectorssupplyhouse and get free shipping to the US, but I think it's on orders over $40 or $50 which is easy to do if you get two or three Gardmaster Albums. Most of my US and Canadian coins are in these albums, although I still have to get a Presidential dollar album and an update page for the US Territorial Quarter program. They also do a lot of stamp albums, but I'm not a stamp collector. I know some people here are, so I thought it would be worth mentioning.

Yeah, picking the albums up off-line pays off when you order a couple of them. I personally prefer to by my supplies from local shops or at shows---I'm a sucker for the little guy --Gary

When I first started collecting back in the late 1950's, Canadian pennies were one of my very favorites.
I haven't kept up with that set for years, but I keep every Canadian penny (and other denomination) that I find. Unfortunately, Colorado is far enough away from the northern border that I seldom see Canadian coins.

I lived in NY (Long Island) until I was 27. Canadian coins were so common in NY that I don't think a week went by that I didn't get one in pocket change. I moved to TN in 1997 and I've probably found less than one Canadian coin a year on average (one was just the other day...1952 penny).

I've been collecting Canadian Cents for a long, long time. Don't know why either. I just put them in plastic rolls and that's where they stay. No idea of what I have, what they are worth, what to do with them, just save them. As to albums and associated coin items you can't beat a coin show. For example at many coin shows you'll find the 2x2's for about $0.03 to $0.04 each if you buy a hundred. Some might be even $0.45 but then there is no postage, shipping, handling, insurance, etc. You can buy some in boxes and some loose. As to albums. Now that is something I've found really odd. Obviously at coin shows there are dealers selling albums. Pending the location of the show, Whitman or Dansco. Also, much cheaper than on line and again, no postage, etc. However, some dealers sell used ones for a fraction of the original prices. Many dealers buy up entire albums and take the coins out, put in 2x2's or the more popular dealer size of 1-1/2x1-1/2 inch sizes. Much cheaper. However, now they are stuck with the albums. If this is a fairly large dealer, may have a vast pile of them at home. It really pays to ASK. If the dealer gets to know you, has enough buisness to not want to bother with selling used albums, you may get them very, very cheap or even free. At one coin show I started asking every dealer about used albums. Many said they throw them away. One told me he had boxes of them. I asked and at the next show he brought two boxes of them and gave me all free. Mostly Dansco and Whitman but a few others also. I kept about 30 or so of them and gave the rest to some friends. At the next coin show again the same dealer brought another bin full. Again, all free. You just have to ask.

One more thing. About those albums at the coin shows. At the coin show where that dealer brought the bin full of albums for me. Just as I was about to take them out to my car he said, wait, my daughter wants a Mercury dime Dansco Album. She wants to start a collection of those. So his daughter, about 10 years old, reached in the bin and pulled out 1 of about 3 of them. She opened it up and the last page was full of MS grades Merc's. We both went through all the rest of the albums but only that one had coins in it. She sure ended up with a nice start and talk about luck.

I've been setting aside all the Canadian cents that I find. I staple them in a 2x2 and put them in a binder. They're fun to look at for the novelty and I have a niece that loves to see them. I've got dates from the early 40's to 2005.

I save all of the Candian cents I find along with the wheat cents. I am hoping that Dansco puts out a Candian cent album.
