PCGS graded....please make note of the spot below the "N" on the reverse.

Opinions welcome and let's see if you grade it the same as PCGS.

How does this blemish (planchet flaw) on the reverse effect the final grade if at all?

Cheers, Bill

A bit too difficult for me to offer a reliable grade opinion, with the scratches that are (mostly?) and obviously on the much softer plastic holder.

Which brings me to a question:
'How should slabs be best protected to avoid scratches?' - this question should really be the subject of another thread.

Some of the patina has been rubbed off the high areas, creating lusterless dark patches in those areas only. This forces me to conclude that an undetectable amount of wear has been sustained, which is a pity, because it would have been MS63 or 4. Assuming that most of the scratches are on the holder,
AU58 RD/BN, details planchet flaw.

The planchet flaw in this case would be a (+) for some collectors, a (-) for others, in terms of value. My feeling is neutral.

For me the flaw under the "N" is a negative..

..but still an easy 63 or 64 R&B grade..

A very beautiful cent..!! The obverse is wonderful..

, the planchet 'flaw' doesn't really distract for me;
I would guess MS63-MS65, even with the 'collector love' on the hair over the forehead and in front of the ear.
NICE coin indeed, well done!

Thanks guy's and very good job in the grading well done.
I couldn't believe how the blemishes and marks on the holder shows up in the pictures they don't look anywhere near that bad in hand.
It was the obverse I really liked and the reason I bought this one.

Cheers, Bill

I have to agree with everyone... The planchet flaw doesn't take anything away from this coin. Very nice coin! I would guess MS63-64 RB in my opinion.

I'd have guessed 63 RB.

The planchet flaw shouldn't be taken into account for the grade.
