That is a good idea.. thanks fourmack .... the Tamron lens looks to be good deal ...on my to get list. coming today a way to connect the Nikon m5 objective I will have to see still not sure till I start connecting stuff.. (the back bone's connected to the neck bone) M42-M42 Mount Focusing Helicoid Ring Adapter 17-31mm Macro Extension Tube EM#01 with this maybe I can start practicing. These could possibly come also as ( edited 12/8 - these 2 packages are at local postal office now too hopefully made the delivery) new RMS female Mount / M42 male SCREW MOUNT lens Adapter, flat M42MaleRMSFemale 2 sets of Macro Extension Tube 3 Ring L8D Set Adapter for M42 42mm Screw Mount Camera Lens In two days I can order a copy-stand, tripod, etc - Something to hold the camera in place that can handle the movement needed for photo stacking at 5x for varieties and also full coins. The biggest coin will be Washington quarter but most will be Jefferson nickels or Lincoln cents for learning this process I will set up for the Lincoln Cent.

You can try doing it handheld but I'd recommend mounting the camera to a tripod or stand. You might get away with the full coin pic but the variety shots will require the camera to be rigidly supported.

Regarding the Macro lenses, they can do the full coin shots but not the detail shots.

Quote: Just wondering if I should I set it up test without a stand or should I wait for it all?
Might as well assemble everything (two ways, with both the M5 objective and the EL-Nikor) test out what you can. It's always possible they sent the wrong adapter (RMS to T2, for example) and it's better to find this out now rather than later, after you get the copy stand.

I did not have to much success yet It is most likely me and the camera But tonight I am going to try to get the full coin set up going and get a few test pictures. Last night I could not get it in focus and the flash, etc. I know next to nothing about how to use the camera so I will need to scan other post for some of the general basic stuff.

For full cent shots, go for a total extension of 125mm-130mm. This includes the 44mm EOS extension, so you need 81-86mm extra. The adapter adds perhaps 2mm, so you need 79-84mm. Your extensions are probably 7mm, 14mm, and 28mm, and your helicoid is 17-31mm. So maybe add one full set of extensions (49mm), plus an extra 7mm (56mm), plus the helicoid (73mm-87mm). This should allow you to do full Cents.

Thanks rmpsrpms I am a visual person so when I read a list like that I get lost.. so I need add pictures to make it easier for me to understand. So in order to do the full coin shot we need a total extension of 125mm-130mmQuote: rmpsrpms

I can't wait to play around with this tonight... I know nothing at all about using the camera so I will document everything here encase other complete noobs like myself read this. Should I reset the camera settings?Being that I am a complete novice and there are multiple possibilities all of which in time I will play with tweak and learn. But as a starting point is there a base set up on the settings I should start with? Here are my current settings or screens that could be adjusted. on the EL-Nikor 75mm lens I can adjust 4 * 5.6 * 8 * 11 *16 * 22 the top of the camera Here are the current setting on the camera's lcd screen #1 screen #2 screen #4 screen #5 screen #6 screen #7 screen #8

So far nothing but blur...I must have it on a setting the takes the picture slowly. I see the full size coin perfect through the view finder.

OcalaFlorida hello try this first set the camera mode to AV. second step the aperture on the elnikkor set it to 5.6 do you have your camera mounted to a enlarger stand or a tripod. have you up loaded liveview yet. it is free on the canon site as long as you have a canon camera and you do. on there site they will ask you to register your canon camera. after that all there software is free. all they will do is send you and email once and awhile try this and let us know how its going. have a great one
