Looks similar to the one I found years back. Not quite sure, however. Should be about a $15 coin.

Struck through something. Grease is a candidate. If die was capped would the rim strike up as clear? Thanks, Doug.
Rest in Peace

I don't know. I don't think so -- I wish there was a pic of the rim. It looks cracked. Might be a case of incorrect hammer pressure. Might just be damaged.

I can't see buying a grease-filled die coin -- seems they turn up all the time.

Struck through error. (grease) If it were a thinned planchet, all the devices would be weak. Note the mint mark? It is strong, the reverse is also strong, so it was trying to strike through Grease Fill dies on the obverse. (also the obverse devices are wide. you would expect that to on a Struck Through Grease error)

I think this might be a brockage maker. it stuck to the die and made a couple of brockage and then broke fee and went on its way. Making a couple brockages would flatten and distort the features some but if only a couple were made it wouldn't be enough to cause the spreading and distortion that happens to a die cap.
