Purchased these off the bay for $20... Unfortunately after I bought them I saw that the seller was selling a similar set PLUS some more coins I needed for my type set for just $5 more

Anyways, the only coins I really need for my type set are the 3 cent pieces. the rest are just icing on the cake!

EDIT: Just realized that it also contains a bust dime

1916? Potentially, but unlikely... Seller notes it as a 17, but admits that the date is unreadable and is only identifiable as the type one by the reverse.

Appreciate your enthusiasm for this lot ... to me there is little of numismatic value.

Have you decided on collecting goals?

Truly asking in the spirit of support of a YN ... bright shiny objects without a goal in mind can always distract us.

Sorry for not posting the link to the second one, I spent all my money I didnt think any of you really wanted these coins...

As for my collecting goals, I want to get a nice decent set of wheats and eventually a nice type set. But for now, I am buying those "odd ball" type coins that I dont have, such as some large cents, 2 cent pieces, basically early type coins. As for the coins I bought, I know they do not command high numismatic value but I am just glad I have them.

Not a 1916 SLQ. Drapery not touching foot and too round, head not high enough into rim. There are more diagnostics..those are the two I always look at first.

However I remember ChildOfTheWheat saying that there isn't any good coin shops/dealers in his area so I can see why this lot would be of interest to him. It provides a lot of variety at a fairly low cost. Maybe not a great value but many of the rest of us have larger budgets and more available options.

I'm thinking the coin next to the Barber dime is either a Seated or Capped Bust Dime.

Seller notes it as Capped Bust, but I suppose it could be a seated dime

Just realized that the only dime with that reverse is the capped bust dime

I agree, there is no need to acid date the Variety 1.

Personal opinion I would invest my $20 in fewer coins with better details. Most of these you can't even see the devices on the coins, making them melt / bullion coins, not collectible numismatic items. BUT, there are many ways to collect, so it is really up you to decide.
