Very nice. Very few tiny nicks, clear fields. Can't see the luster but I'll say MS64.

(I'm assuming that speck on the reverse is lint or dust)

Nice, well-struck coin (not always so easy to find in the Liberty nickel series! I see no evidence of rub in the pics provided, but also difficult to determine amount of luster and overall eye-appeal. I'm thinking MS-64 or 65 on the high end. Is this perhaps a proof coin? Just wondering, since the obverse, at least is so well struck.

I don't like how scanners make the coin appear "dead".

Some last new detailed pictures (do not want to spam this topic with pictures :) ).
@1sikevo: I took these with my camera. You are right, scanner pictures are looking really dead and grey...

I'll go with AU53 and the pictures make it apparent there's some rub on the coin.

I have 2 Liberty nickels graded MS-64, one by ANACS and the other by PCGS. Superdog's coin looks to be the equal of these in terms of detail, contact marks, and lack of visible wear. I don't think it's a proof since there is no mirror quality to the fields.

It does seem to have a chrome-like shine in the Imageshack photos. Maybe it has been dipped or chemically processed to shine it up, but if so it's pretty subtle. I don't see any hairlines from abrasive cleaning.

If the surfaces are original and the luster is strong (which could only be properly evaluated in-hand), I'll vote with most of the other posters and call this a solid MS-64 or better.

Prethen, you are a tough grader! Do you perhaps have some nice, conservatively-graded coins you want to sell?

Jaobler, I'll take that as a compliment. Yes, as I "mature" in the hobby, my grading gets tougher but realistic. Also, there are at least a few folks on this board alone who might be able to vouch for the material they obtained from me over the past several months. Sometimes I can come in a bit high on a grade...over-optimistic that is. Of course, it's hard not to add a point or two to a coin you own but I resist the urge to do that.

When I see a picture of a coin that only has a certain angle or the lighting doesn't really cover the surfaces well, I'll be a bit tougher. This coin has areas that appear to be rub/wear over all the high points: Above the ear, cheek, "V". Then, there's the tell-tale signs of actual circulation when you look at the fields around the design. Notice how they're darker. That "look" is very characteristic of a lightly circulated coin. In my book it's a 53, maybe 55. Now, is it possible the photo doesn't do the coin justice? Yep. It might be a lusterous gem for all I know. But, all I have is that photo.

Superdog - The pics show a little more bag marks, but sure brings life to that coin. Is there some dust on the coin ? You should give it a quick blast of canned air before taking pics. It still looks Unc to me, in the MS62 range. Very well struck with sharp features.

The opinions are going from AU53 to MS65.
I think I will send the coin to ANACS in some weeks.
