I have a friend who wants to collect coins but is financially unavailable. He is now in a predicament where he has to marry a young lass he knows.

For a wedding gift I want to give him the sixpence for the shoe. Outside of it being silver is there more to it? Do you want a Vicky/older or would an Edward or Liz work?

Sorry for such a dumb question but he is a childhood friend and I really want to surprise him with something neat.

Rest in Peace

I don't know of any rules or what would be considered best.

When my sister-in-law got married a few years ago, we sent her a sixpence from her birth year.

That would be a nice touch but 1993 didn't have a sixpence. I will try to think of a pre '46 date for the coin. Great idea with the significant date!

I usually give my young women friends and relatives a 6p from their mother's (or father's) birth year.

There are no rules though so any date will do.

Mebbe it should be about the same color as the wedding dress?
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

I was under the impression all wedding dresses were the same colour, I learnt something new today.

I also just seen your post in my trade list post so be watching for an email.

The only sixpence at a wedding I know about is that song "Kiss Me" by Sixpence None the Richer that plays at all receptions lol

I don't know about six pence, but it sounds like your friends predicament is a "shotgun wedding"... Maybe buy him some silver shotgun shells as a joke/gift.

I gave my daugther a 6 pence which was dated a hundred years before her birth year. And set coin aside for my grand daughter as well.

In my opinion, Sterling is always best, but 50% is also acceptable if one is on a budget.

My daughter is only two, but I have a coin in mind for her when she gets married. I have a George V sixpence from 1928 that came back with my grandfather from WWII. It's also my grandmother's birth year. So that will be given to my daughter when she gets married.
