Interesting coin. Looks like it might be French. Definitely cheap ($3.) Looks old. Might be a jeton, a coin, or a fake. Either way for $3 I'm not losing any sleep. Metal looks funky, billon perhaps or something that was bronzed. Any thoughts on what we've got here? I'm not 100% sure what it is but it sure looks like a cast to me!

15th or 16th Century French jeton.

Looks very much like some medieval jetons from Nuremberg. If you do a Google image search with the terms "rose", "orb", "tressure ", "jeton", you'll see similar.

If this is a late medieval french jeton - which it appears to be - how did you come by it for three bucks? I never find that kind of stuff! Just curious.

It was a late-night random ebay buy while searching for something totally unrelated. I have no idea what it is, but for $3..why not. Seller is in Canada. I try to keep things interesting and fun

That's quite excellent detective work there, Petrus. The link even has a Mitchener reference number.
This must be one of the earlier examples since it has the random letters for the legend instead of actual words. I would have not thought German, the style is very French, perhaps this is because the Nuremberg makers were copying from French examples of counters.

I won a coin from this seller yesterday. I also watch his unknowns. Always something interesting there.

I think I may have bought from him previously but I do not recall.
