Interesting coin.

Looks like it might be French. Definitely cheap ($3.) Looks old. Might be a jeton, a coin, or a fake. Either way for $3 I'm not losing any sleep. Metal looks funky, billon perhaps or something that was bronzed.

Any thoughts on what we've got here?

Looks very much like some medieval jetons from Nuremberg. If you do a Google image search with the terms "rose", "orb", "tressure ", "jeton", you'll see similar.

If this is a late medieval french jeton - which it appears to be - how did you come by it for three bucks? I never find that kind of stuff! Just curious.

It was a late-night random ebay buy while searching for something totally unrelated. I have no idea what it is, but for $3..why not.

Seller is in Canada.

I try to keep things interesting and fun

That's quite excellent detective work there, Petrus. The link even has a Mitchener reference number.

This must be one of the earlier examples since it has the random letters for the legend instead of actual words. I would have not thought German, the style is very French, perhaps this is because the Nuremberg makers were copying from French examples of counters.

I won a coin from this seller yesterday. I also watch his unknowns. Always something interesting there.

I think I may have bought from him previously but I do not recall.
