to get the pictures.

Yes, that date and liberty are definitely doubled but I'm not sure what you're trying to show in the head shot. I don't think I've ever seen vdb doubled. The question is, is this Machine Doubling or a DDO? I'll go out on a limb and say it MD.

On the VDB this is machine damage on those devices. During the strike the dies moved slightly. The VDB is raised on the die, incuse on the coins. So when this die movement happens during the strike, devices that are raised on the die will look doubled on the coin. (just the opposite for raised devices on the coin)

Coop, that makes perfect sense, I've just never noticed it on the VDB, probably because I've never looked. So many strikes on the recent, plated cents appear compressed in the third dimension. Just being able to see Brenner's initials is cause for celebration. In the future I'm likely to pay more attention to this little incuse device.

Thank you both for your assistance, should have known that it would be MD again.

Just another piece of the jigsaw puzzle to add to you knowledge of coins.

When the die is polished, then these devices are thinned and eventually can go away. Then there is nothing there to make the incuse letters there. So no more VDB.
