Good luck! The second time I got rolls to look through ever, I grabbed $50 in dimes and they were all 2012 Ds unc as well. Not knowing any better, I dumped them back the next day. Should have rolled them back up and sold them. And now I am waiting for that to happen again.

Thanks! I am new to the whole ebay thing so we'll see. I have returned whole boxes of 2012 dimes before because I didn't know folks were interested in them. I only want to find the older coins or coins with errors.

Congrats on the Proofs Rew and mountainman 2. Also to CoinRollHunter on the 1950-D.

Searched 2 boxes earlier this week. Found numerous pre-1960. Too many to list. I did find 5 Silver and 1 of them, 1943-P, has what I think is a lamination error? I hope it shows in the photo below. I also found 2 1952-D both with Lamination Errors on the Obverse.

The-Goal:-25,000-Rolls-Of-Nickels-All-Searchers-Welcome!

Also found 9 2009-D and 1 2009-P along with this 1980 Bermuda Nickel. I like fish so I thought I would post a photo.

And last but not least my first Proof. A 2008-S. It's a little worn but it's still a first for me. Not the best photo. I took the pic with my phone.

Going to try to get 2 more boxes for the weekend. If I can't get them, I guess I'll have no more excuses to not finish the yard work.

Got $20 from 2 different banks for a total of $40 done today.

Keepers: 1939 x1 (No mintmark no double die)
1940-S x1
1942-D x1 (CuNi)(Slight Upgrade)
1942-S x1 (Silver)

Not too shabby for just 20 rolls

Thanks rachums107.

I have searched numerous boxes of halves and found about 20 Proofs, but I was really excited to find this nickel. It was my first proof nickel. I'll put it in a 2x2 and label it with day I found it. I try to do this with all of the "first" finds.

There doesn't seem to be many proofs found in nickels compared to halves. Maybe because of the volume of halves searched?

I am enjoying searching nickels so much more than halves that I'm not sure I will order halves this week? Nickels are much easier to obtain and also to dump.

While halves are searched more than nickels, I actually think it has more to do with volume of coins produced. If you look just at 2007, there were about 1.2 billion nickels produced, approximately 2 million of those were proofs. Same year in halves, 7 million were produced, 2 million proofs. If my math is correct, 1 out of every 600 nickels produced that year was a proof, 1 out of every 3.5 halves produced that year was a proof. You have to go through a lot more nickels to find a proof in comparison to halves especially since a lot of the proofs are still in sets outside of circulation. I know my small sample size has shown me that I have searched 20 boxes of nickels and have 1 proof, where I have searched 9 boxes of halves and have 10 proofs.

That's well thought out tuleja and makes perfect sense. I didn't think to compare the mintage numbers of the 2 coins. I was being lazy and should have given it more thought. Thanks for the research.
