yeh, even though the nickels are super heavy to carry and therefore difficult to dump, they are always fun to search as long as the box is not solid brand new. Still doing 1 or 2 a week, the 38 s will come eventually!

Picked up two boxes today; both solid. (boooo) Maybe they are 2015s.  Didn't even take them from the truck. I still have a box of cents to do, so that'll keep me busy until I can do the swap. |

I found my first 1939 D in a brinks box along with a 1938 S back in late 2013.. That had been my first 39 D ever found in nickels since I started CRHing in 2004-2005. I think that was my 4th 38S as well. Maybe my third. Still looking for the elusive 1950 D... Funny how I've found every coin in the series, plus over 50 buffalo's and 4 V nickels, but not a single 50 D. I even found a '13 T1 buffalo in VF-30 to VF-35 the first box of 2015. It has a dark, questionable color to it so it'd probably only grade at VF or XF Details. |

I found my first 1939-d about a week ago. This completed the set for me. I don't know how many 1939 nickels I have flipped, until I finally saw a d there. I found the 1950-d many years ago. Didn't realize at the time, how hard they are to come across. I have found 4 1938-s nickels during this time. All four this year, since I started CRHing more seriously.
I now need 2 nickels each for my 2nd and 3rd albums. I need 2 1939-d and 2 1950-d. I think I will be searching for a long time, but it is fun. The 1950-d scares me the most. It's a big hurdle to finding a complete set. I have been through half a million nickels without finding that one -- since I started logging CRH.

the number of 38s found gives me hope. and I found 2 x 50d along my way. weird how it all works

You won't believe skibdib, but I just started a box tonight and found another 1938-s! Literally minutes ago. That makes 5. Wow. Posting here must have brought luck.... I hope it does for you too.

Finished the box. Found nothing more of interest, except a 1936 Buffalo. My heart did skip a beat when I saw another 1938 in the pile. I was, like, could it happen, again? But, there was no mintmark.
Once, I found 2 1938-d in the same box though. The box had 154 pre-1960 nickels in it though, and I have never seen anything like it since.
The buffalo was a good find for me. I find one, in about every 4 boxes and this includes dateless ones.
The box I searched tonight was a Brinks box and it contained quite a few cents in the rolls. Normally, I get a little annoyed by these, but any time I find a 1938-s, I'm happy. Anyone else find lots of cents and sometimes dimes in their Brink's rolls?

Went through about $30 worth. Found 8 pre-60's in acceptable condition. I also found a 1942-P silver and another 1955-P. Unfortunately the 55-P has moderate verdigris on it, maybe if I ever pick up verdi-care I can try it out. I know the 55-P isn't super rare but the mintage is low.

There are two local coin rolling companies (vaults) in my town. I've never found any cents in their nickel rolls. They are not brinks, loomis, or Garda, fwiw. They are honestly just local.
