Finally did it and created account after lurking for long time. Just found the elusive 1950 D on Monday. Hope to share finds and stats with some of the regular nickel hunters

Thank you, Berto. Was at $9356 or 4678 rolls when found. Still have not found six total, 38D,S 39D,S and 2015P,D. Two of them should be pretty easy.

4 of past 6 boxes were solid bricks of 2014 or 2015. Very hard to find the missing '39D this way!

There are plenty of 2009P/Ds to find, but finding one of each in AU/MS state is hard. Lower mintages and hoarding are to blame. But keep at this a while and you'll find more than enough to fill your spots and stow away.

Tip on picking through a dump; many times these folks are silver hoarding or gleaning out pre-60 nickels. That doesn't mean that they got all the 'good stuff'. Plenty of post '60 variety hunting to be had and can turn what seems to be a busted hunt into something productive. Spend some time at Variety Vista brushing up on things to look for (e.g. CONECA listings).

You are correct. Modern Jeffersons have better definition of detail in the steps making FS finds routine. I think that over time, we'll see that it's easier to find FS coins 30 years after minting than we can today. Finding FS '82s and '83s is very difficult. Keep in mind that while these two dates aren't variety related, lack of mint sets for this date (as I've read) make them desirable CRH finds in AU PS and MS grades. You'll pick up a bunch valuable tips here at CCF. Here are some of the '60 and later varieties I hunt:

In addition, I look for mint errors like clashes for any date, Cuds, trails....about anything. You never know when a gem will pop up. It's what makes CRH a fun pastime.
