That's a classy '58! Thanks, Brandmeister! I've actually got several '58 Philly nickels which have that similar look - I like it a lot! Quote:
Great finds John77! You got lucky.
Thanks, Errers and Varietys... Though I think today it was more about me being smart than lucky... If I had gotten nickels from that other male teller again, I probably would've only gotten the requisite 4 or 5 pre-60s with nothing really good like I usually do with him... I've bought 35 rolls from this female teller the past two visits (probably all from one box) and the tally is now 19 pre-60s and 4 2009-Ds, including the aforementioned 1915-S Buffalo, and today's 1926 Buffalo, 1942-P, and 1958 Philly coins. I'm assuming she still has 10-15 rolls left... when I go in tomorrow I might just buy up the rest of her nickel rolls if she's working regardless of whether my regular teller is there or not.

And just for reference, that 1987-D nickel is a misaligned die (MAD), not an off-center. On a true off-center coin, both the obverse and reverse would be misaligned, not just one side. Still a neat coin.

Thanks, CalzoneManiac... that 1987-D has some weirdness on the reverse too... the rims are not as even as they should be on the left-hand side of it.

So my favorite teller was back on Thursday after being gone for a week... I got nickels from her yesterday (1000 CWR)... and, believe it or not, this happened for the THIRD time this year with her.... The only difference this time was the date... not a third consecutive 1910, but rather a 1902 - the oldest coin I've found so far this year! As for the rest of that half box, well there were 14 other pre-60s including 1936 and 1936-D Buffalo coins and a single 2009-D . So I've found three V nickels this year and ALL have been over the past three months from the same teller in MWR! I did some quick math and said teller only accounts for about 15% of the nickels I've searched this year. Incredibly, in the 14 weeks I've gotten nickels from her, I've gotten a Key Date Jefferson (1939-S in that famous hoard which started all of this), a V, a Buffalo, or a War Nickel in 13 of those weeks! The only week I didn't her group of 800 CWR had a 2009-P and a 1975-S proof...

If only you had gotten a War Nickel, then you would have had the trifecta! Awesome finds.

Thanks, all!
And CalzoneManiac, it's pretty hard to get that trifecta in only 1,000 coins... tomorrow, assuming she's there, will get another $50 from her and maybe complete it!

Thanks, aristarchus123 and jbuck! Prior to April of this year (not including the 4 V nickel hoard from a few years ago - there were also 30 Buffalo nickels in said roll), I was finding a V nickel about once every 110,000 coins searched - so one for every 55 boxes... I've bought 22,640 nickels this year from this one single teller - about 11 1/3 boxes - and found THREE - one in April, one in May, and this latest one. That's about FIFTEEN times my "normal" find rate for V nickels...

Off a trip to HI and WA, 20 rolls searched in each state.
HI a wealth of finds including a minor clip (87 D), Philippines 25 Sentimos and some common date pre-1960s for a total of 7 keepers. WA only two, but one of those was a 51 S!
Got home Sunday, hunted $40 yesterday from local teller and had poor quantity (3 pre-1960) AND poor quality in 20 rolls but the lows make those highs all the richer.
