I posted this before but used the seller's pictures. I got it in my hand and I feel I see the date as 1983 but I am not 100% sure so I am hoping you guys can aid me in this. I took the bestpics possible from different light angles. Let me know if you agree that it's 1983 or a different date. Picture 6 is a photoshop edit to and I think shows best how the 3 is depicted from the contrast shadows. Thanks. A reverse image will quickly define the difference between 1983 and 1988.

It is also a "wide A M" Did you try an old trick, by using some paper, and a wide pencil lead to move across the date? It eill hit the hugh spots, and "MAYBE" help. Dick

Either 1983 or 1985. Can't be 1988.

Hi guys, I just want to ask what's the difference between a die cap in relation to Struck Through Grease error coin Thanks

In a die cap the previous coin gets stuck to the hammer die ( the one that comes down ) and strikes the next planchet with it capped off. In a struck thru error it is grease or something else that gets in the way of the planchet and dies and gets struck through onto the planchet.

Ok, the image still doesn't show what I needed. Here are a few examples of the 1983-1987 reverses. I looked at a couple of the reverses from 1983 and noticed a weakness (well in my examples) on the statue area. On the 1984-1986 there was a double line below the statue. On 1987-92 the stronger design is present. No doubled line on pedestal. So take a look and see what you see there? The double line below the statue or the weaker statue. That might be the answer as to what year you have? I re-checked your image and it looks like it has the doubled line above the pedestal. so 1985 or 86?

It is struck though another coin. The term strike though error usually means grease/wire/string/thread/cloth what ever gets in the way. But in the case of a die cap, what is described happens. The upper die is capped with a planchet and continues to strike other coins till the problem is corrected. The planchet is removed and the process goes on till the next problem happens.
