Weak type to be sure. It looks an awful lot like what's pictured & identified in my (very old) copy of Van Allen & Mallis as "41A R B/Ak (Polished}" and also very similar to the one illustrated in Standish's book - your opinion welcome.

I confess to not having paid too much attention to the obverse of this specimen. That said, I can't discern any evidence of the clashed "In" or "st" but I can detect the wisps below Liberty's chin, although they're rather faint. What I do readily see is what looks like a clash mark between her lips and chin.

There's also a die crack extending from left star #1 all the way to #6.

After a couple weeks of crickets on this one, should I take that to mean nobody's identified this prticular obverse clash/crack combo before?

It's your common garden variety VAM 41C, LC. I apologize, I didn't realize your were looking for more comments. See the full plate obverse and reverse photos. http://www.vamworld.com/1878-P+VAM-41C

Also, check your e-mail junk box. I replied to your e-mail a while back.

Wait, there is an email system here at CC? I did not realize that, if there is...

The VAM-41C was one of my very first, and still one of my favorites even though common. I say nice find, and good eye.

That second icon on my reply taskbar, the one that looks like a sheet of paper and open envelope is to send a member an e-mail. You must have this option turned on in your profile to receive e-mails.

Thanks Dave. I am not sure how to change that in my profile to accept emails.

Sorry LuckyCuss for stealing the thread.. I have been curious about how to touch base with other members off the main boards!
