Hi, Does anyone know of a list of all the "extra" coins in regular circulating series that are not in Danscos? These would be the coins that people may or may not feel they would need to have to consider their collection complete. However, even though they are regular business series, the coins would be ones that are not designed for circulation, such as proofs and SMS. Usually these would be in some commemorative set somewhere; and I know about many of them. I fear I may not know about all of them and was curious. But I can't find a list anywhere. Examples of the ones I do know about: 1997 Matte Nickel from the Botanical Garden set 1994 Matte Nickel from Coin and Currency Set 1998 Matte Kennedy The presidential reverse proof dollars from the Coin and Chronicles 2015 Reverse Proof Dime from the March of Dimes 1996 W dime The many many varieties of the ASE The 4 special variations of JFK in 2014
With the ability to create custom CAPS pages and include the ones I want and not include the ones I don't, I feel less restricted to collect what I am told to collect, while still able to use a functioning album. I haven't made the transition to CAPs yet, but if I do, I want to know what I could consider including. I mentioned many of the ones I know about above, but I am sure I have missed many...which is why I am hoping someone knows of a cumulative list somewhere. Edited by crazyglue 12/29/2015 1:35 pm

You got the 2015-P reverse proof silver dime, but omitted the 2015-W regular proof silver dime. The circulation strike S-mint ATB Quarters (minted as NCLT since 2012) do not have holes in the Dansco albums. The 1965-1967 SMS coins are represented in the Kennedy half dollar 8166 album, but not in any other denomination 8xxx albums. Although not NCLT related, it should be noted that Dansco does not differentiate the two 1981-S varieties, while the 1979-S varieties are.

Thanks jbuck. You are right, I did forget the other dime! Thanks for the additional reminders too...I forgot all about the 2012-present NCLT ATB Quarters in S unc. I know there was a 1993 nickel in some commemorative sets, but I think it was just a regular nickel? The trend definitely seems on the upswing in the last 5 years...

Yes, it is almost as if the Mint wants to purposely upset album builders. I might actually think that Dansco and the Mint were in cahoots if Dansco had been better about releasing updated pages and/or albums.

Not sure if these are exactly what you're looking for, but here are some I thought of" -2005 to 2010 satin strikes (only in mint sets, different finish than regular unc.) -2014 & 2015 enhanced uncirculated Native American dollars-Actually 11 different Kennedy halves for 2014 (regular business strike P&D, P&D from 50th ann. unc. set, clad proof set, silver proof set, silver 4-coin set, gold proof) That's all I can think of for now, at least.

Thanks Atlas642 for the additional ones-- by the way, are all P&D from the unc. anniversary set different from the P&D from the regular us mint set? I just assumed they were the same in different wrapping. And I forgot about the gold proof.

From the Mint website: Note: "All other U.S. Mint 2014 Kennedy half-dollars that are not included in the K13 (silver 4-coin set), K14 (50th ann. unc. set) and K15 (gold proof) sets share the common reverse described above, while the obverse features a strong but simple portrait of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy and the inscriptions "LIBERTY" and "IN GOD WE TRUST"." Parentheses are my additions. Basically, the Kennedy half dollars from the 50th ann. set have a slightly different obverse from the regular mint set half dollars.

To get back to your original question, I have attempted for the past several years to find an all inclusive list also. To date I have not found anything that I consider complete, but the three best sources that I rely on are the Red Book, the PCGS price guide web site and the most important source for me has been incessant studying and questioning. BTW, the list that you compiled above is a good start but just barely scratches the surface of all the possible varieties that exist (how about the 1939 reverse of 38 and reverse of 40 Jefferson nickel varieties?). Im not completely sold on the CAPS album concept yet, I prefer to use blank Dansco pages to assemble my variety sets. Let me know how these albums work out for you.

It would be interesting to have a list of such coins. And be fun to put a complete set together. I think a lot of them have been mentioned. Pretty sure the 1996 W Roosevelt has a hole in the with proof issue, but not in the P and D album. I am thinking, to develop a list, someone might go through the Red Book by denomination and page by page. Here is a few, off the top of my head 1970 D thin planchet Washington quarterHigh and low leaf Washington WI State Quarter (D mint) Light and heavy motto early Washington quarters2007 Washington small dollar - no edge letter 2007 Adams small dollar - double edge letter
