I see a Half Dime on ebay that claims to be an 1837/7 overdate. Looks legit, but I wanted to hear all your opinions about the coin and the grade, and how much I should offer.

EF-45 details, hits on the face and possible old cleaning.

I don't think so about the cleaning, but I appreciate the grading.
Did you have any comment on the 7/7 claim?
Rest in Peace

No expert -- but I don't see a 7/7. That raised area below the 7 doesn't look right for that.

This one has the same 'ding'. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1837-Capped...ht_532wt_991

Agree EF-45. Don't know enough about the series to recognize a possible overdate here.

I Googled the 37/7 and that's what it looks like but I think the one Buddy found is also.

I would pass on this coin.
It is a 1837 LM-1( R-1 common die marriage) everything match up:
OBV. 7 strongly repunched at bottom, s1 through s13 are all correct.
REV. U closer to wing, ED close, TA close, T3 above E2 and C2 four times closer to stem.
The sellers- make an offer- starts at $360 and I would be at around $220 - $240 tops. The coin is in AU but has the possibility of getting a detail grade.
Try the HA.com or Stack's auction that is coming up in a week or two (NY and the FUN auction).

It will be details because of the cleaning (halo around stars) and the huge face hits

Nice piece but I do suspect some, let's call it "tampering" with the surface ..... Maybe not and I'm 110% off-base .....

Question is what does your eye see and are you buying for collection or as an investment - cause if investment, the price is too high ....

Best of luck!
