It looks like a huge die crack. If so, it is unrelated to the same thing on the reverse die.

I think this may be split plating due to excessive die pressure-see what others think

I'm thinking a circumferential crack is unlikely. Split plating makes more sense to me. The 80s dies were heavily used so slamn's thought seems plausible. Higher pressure and the chronic plating problems seem like it could lend to this type of error. Let's see what the experts think.

Plating issue, quite common on zincolns.

I can buy into the plating issue because the line is so long, though never heard of it. So is it the same going on with the reverse?

Yes. It could. The reverse image is a little out of focus so hard for me to offer a solid opinion here. Could be a clash but more likely die wear.

The obverse and reverse are different issues. On the reverse, we can see the line flowing behind the devices. This tells me it is a gouge/die dent on this die in that area. The obverse looks like it flows over the tops of the devices. I'm leaning toward split plating after the coin was struck. It may have been a small line cut into the coin with a coin counter. (It seems parallel to the rim) With a slight scratch, it lets some air into the zinc base and starts to push upwards like we see on your coin. Neither is worth a premium, but just a spender. But knowing what it is... Priceless knowledge.
