Sometimes it pays off to tell all your co-workers that you are a coin nut. One of the Palistinians working with me here in Gaza brought me 5 Peace dollars today. He said his grandfather traded them with an American serviceman in the 40's he had no use for them and sold them to me for melt value. I don't think I took advantage of him but just to be on the safe side I post one of them here for you fine people to grade. If everyone here agrees that its better than VF . Then I will buy the guy a Shwama to make up the differnce. http://www.mycoins.us/Ebay/1926PeaceOBV1.jpg http://www.mycoins.us/Ebay/1926PeaceREV1.jpg

Nohope, I think you're safe, but it might go VF-35, so it'd be close. I'm not a Peace dollar expert, but if the other coins are in similar condition, you might want to buy him a Shwama anyway, just to be on the safe side. BTW, what's a Shwama?

Shwama ? You don't know what Shwama is!!! The Short Version Grilled shaved compressed lamb/Chicken/Beef in a pitta bread mit Humous und salad oh and dont forget the hot sauce The Long Version BE WARNED MAY LEAD TO TRIPS TO THE BIG WHITE TELEPHONELamb schwama which is the original flavour. Baby sheep are slaughtered and all the usefull stuff is stripped from the bones. Whats left is mechanically reclaimed and formed into a slurry. The whole lot is then cooked and compressed into a big cylinder. A Steel spike (Spit) goes through the cylinder and the whole lot is mounted vertically on a rotissery. Bits and bobs are then shaved off as required and made into Schwama Its wonderful stuff especially if you add plenty of hot sauce to get rid of the taste. In the Northern Med they add a Pinnapple to the top of the spit. Here they Add a huge lump of Fat to self baste the spit. Now aren't you glad you asked....

I think it's VF20. A little too much wear on the eagle's feathers and the reverse lettering is a little faint for VF30 or better, in my opinion. What a great deal!

Maybe, MAYBE VF20. The harsh surface is very distracting on the obverse, and the reverse suffers the casualty that is most typical of Peace dollars and that is the fading on the lower left quadrant of the eagles folded wings and the rays and the "E PLURIBUS.." I've seen Mint state coins with that area quite faded. This is mainly a design defect that tends toward weak strikes, which is ashame because the reverse on this coin is one of the most beautiful reverses in U.S. coinage. That's what I always look for when considering a Peace dollar purchase, the E Pluribus, that rivals the rarity of the coin.

I wrote "lower left quadrant" and that is not accurate. In fact the tendency toward fading takes place on the rays and motto of the coin most pronounced in the middle of the left hemisphere. Sorry.
