Thanks for sharing this neat read. The most amazing part was that I couldn't find a single mistake.

Interesting article, thanks for posting.

I am sure you will get a lot of opinions on this,
to me the subject comes up to often.

While I would like for the government to save more spend less.

In this case, for that amount, I have no problem with the
cost to keep the cent and nickel.

There are many here that want to get rid of them.

Not me.

There are also some collectors that don't like all the
different quarter and dollar designs.

I am thinking .. be careful what you wish for.

If we ended up with just the coins some complaining
about us having, we would be down to just a
Dime
Single design quarter
and a single dollar coin.

If some don't think that would not hurt the hobby ...
Then I really don't know how to convince otherwise.

Sure some will say, they will make them for the annual
sets. They may ...or they might not.

Either way ....it wouldn't be the same.

I also would like to keep the cent and nickel.

But I am one of the people who complain about the multitude of designs with the quarter and dollar. I am not for never changing a design or running something special...but both at once, plus some years (2009) throw on some more and I get fatigued.

I probably would not have minded so much if there was 10 years of State Quarters and then 10 years of something else-- like national park half dollar. But 20 years of 5 quarters every year, then throw on 5 different dollars every year...it just isn't my cup of tea.

Maybe having a special thing running all the time is fine...just rotate the denomination and don't have two changing designs of the same denomination each year (small dollar).

I think, for me personally, there is somewhere nicely in the middle of never changing designs and what I personally feel is a little too much variety.

A time to tighten belts? Even some numismatic belts?
Coins are archaic. Paper money is archaic.

The computer age is bringing many changes to us. We're in an age of debits & credits manipulated by plastic cards.

How many of us still receive a paper check? I haven't had one in many years.

How many of us carry no cash, or very little cash? Now days it is cards only, right?

So why should we expect our government to continue to pound out coins and pieces of paper which are used less & less? (and worth less and less as well - sigh)

In a previous posting I asked, "Why do we collect?". There are as many reasons as there are people!

What generally happens to coins no longer being struck? They accrue value.

So even if the Feds stop nickles & pennies, all of these coins are still out there. Maybe a wise collector will start building up some stock for the day this stuff goes away? (and it will go away - that is not even debatable)

Time for us to start updating our collecting protocols as we enter the future with "no money"

Rest in Peace

I carry very little cash and use plastic most of the time. But there are folks that do. Older people have a harder time trusting electronic transactions and prefer cash and even *shudder* paper checks.

Change drawers. Desks. Dressers. Couches. Coin jars. Some people just throw cents away. And Zincolns tend to fall apart much more quickly than their older copper counterparts.

All those billions and I still can't find a 2015 cent that doesn't have a D on it!

Yes, I for one still get paid with a paper check every week and my boss pays all the bills that way. It's not because of any fear of electronic transactions it's just easier for a small business and record keeping. Stamping an invoice "paid" check # so and so. I don't think it is that uncommon...yet anyway.

And cash vs debit cards. I'm about 75% debit card and 25% cash. I always have $20 - $100 in my wallet.

I am sorry, but continuing to mint cents and nickels is fiscally irresponsible.

I find it funny that some people will complain (loudly) about welfare, the ACA, and other government handouts subsidies, yet go completely bonkers at the thought of having no more cents or nickels, as if they were some sort of right (they are not).

Our minting of cents and nickels is a waste. Period. They need to stop minting them for circulation now.

I like the nickels and cents. The question is how can they be made lucrative?
What does anybody think about a cent and nickel that still come out in mint and proof sets. Or being able to buy rolls of them from the mint? I don't mind paying what they're worth to keep them.
I am totally tired of so many designs on the quarters for sooo long! I agree that they should limit it to 10 years.
I don't buy the presidential rolls of dollars just the sacs.
