Got a 2016 RedBook today, and noticed the 2014 ASE mintage numbers are significantly lower than previous years.

2013(s)(w)=42.6 mil not including the collector versions. Yet 2014 (W)(S)224500. only minting around 1 million 2014 total. What happened? Why so low?

If I'm correct this is because West Point did not mint any bullion ASE, they only minted proofs in 2014?

You are looking at false mintage numbers. The total mintage for all 2013 bullion eagle was only 33 million.

HMM Denco Book shows 2013(W)(S) mintage as 42.657.000.
Shows 2012(W)(S) as 33.742.500.
Is RedBook that far off?

There are no (S) ASE. The San Fran mint issues regular bullion eagles with no mint marks only as an over flow for West Point. The mint keeps track but they are indistinguishable from regular bullion and the numbrs are added into the regular 42 million mintage in 2014

EDIT: sorry, 2012- 33 mil; 2013-42 mil; 2014-44 mil

If you just hop over to the U.S. Mint you can get the correct numbers for all years.

ok Ty. Just looked it up online and shows just over 44 million in 2014. Wonder how RedBook missed the rest of them.

I feel kinda sheepish now!

There are several different types of eagles each year. There are bullion eagles minted in San Fran and West Point. These have no mint marks. The TPGs designate them as (w) and (s).
There are burnished eagles that have a W mint mark and are TPG designated as W. There are Proof Eagles with W mint mark but only designated as Proof not by mint mark. And in 2013, a reverse proof and enhanced proof were also issued.

So depending on what numbers Red Book is showing. Bullion eagles minted in WP, bullion eagles minted in SF. UNC eagles, proof eagles. Eagles minted as part of the WP set .....

True, but if sealed Monster Boxes bearing the Mint Location (W or S) were shipped directly to a TPG, said TPGs would certify the individual Eagles W or S with the slab. Some collectors make the distinction.

It should be noted that in 2015 bullion ASEs were only minted at West Point (and possibly at Philadelphia but you won't find a certified 2015 P ASE). I'm not sure if that will be the case for 2016.
